On the eightieth anniversary of Independence Day, Dr. Hamed Abpu Zahr, Consul of Lebanon in Peru, wrote: Lebanon’s independence represents the highest meanings and values. It embodies the meanings of freedom and the spirit of dedication and sacrifice. It contains the culture of liberation and the rejection of subordination and humiliation. It also contains the sublime idea of resisting the occupiers.
What words should we say on the anniversary of independence? The homeland is bleeding and the entity is threatened in existence and destiny. The Lebanese are groaning under the weight of a stifling economic and living crisis, and a national crisis that reflects the crisis of a regime born of tensions and divisions.
We are talking about freedom in a country where human dignity is violated and its citizens are deprived of their most basic right to live with human dignity.
Are we talking about patriotism in a time of vanishing values and scattering of national concepts? Some still have illusions and suggest federalism as a solution to the crisis!
What sovereignty are we talking about? While external interference constitutes a flagrant violation of sovereignty and independence.
Today, our enemy is waging a war of extermination against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, and evil is lurking in Lebanon, threatening to destroy it. Confronting it can only be done through solidarity, unity, and rallying around the resistance, rejecting calls to demand its disarmament, and preserving the golden equation that has proven its effectiveness in protecting the homeland and its sovereignty: “army, people, and resistance.” .
We remember the spirit of independence and its sublime meanings, we cling to our unity of land and people, and we aspire to a capable and just state, so we seek reform and development of the system, and a rescue project that will stop the collapse.
Getting out of the current crisis begins with electing a President of the Republic with Lebanese consensus and forming a national rescue government to address the crisis, confront corruption, and work to implement the reform provisions contained in the Taif Agreement, especially those related to abolishing political sectarianism, achieving balanced development, and establishing a state of citizenship that protects the rights of its citizens, and by raising… Injustice and injustice towards the tortured and oppressed, and confronting the siege, starvation and domination in order to build a productive, not rentier, economy, we prove true independence.
Opening up to international powers and heading east is not a luxury, but is dictated by the supreme national interest. Saving Lebanon and protecting its independence is the responsibility of all Lebanese of all categories, and we look forward to a pioneering role in this field for the Lebanese expatriates spread across the globe, who are known for their attachment to their homeland and for harnessing all their capabilities to provide the elements of steadfastness for their people inside the country, as their financial transfers contributed to alleviating the effects of the crisis. devastating economic.
Together for a free, independent Lebanon.
Abou Zahr denounced the massacres carried out by the Israeli enemy in Gaza and offered his deepest condolences to the Arab media body.
